TITLE:  ArcServe 3.01g, Manhattan V, Netware4.1
 
 
SUMMARY 
 
   The user may be unable to operate the DAT driver under Netware 4.1 
   in a Manhattan V system.
   
   This issue affects the following systems: 501533, 501534, 501651, 
   501660, 501701, 501702, 501703, and 501754.    


ISSUE 
 
   When installing ArcServe 3.01g on Manhattan P, V or G systems 
   that are running Novell Netware 4.1, the user is unable to 
   operate the DAT driver. NETASPI.NLM does not report the drive as present.    

 
BACKGROUND

ACTION 
 
   Obtain the latest Netware 4.x drivers for the NCR SCSI controller. 
   The drivers are called SDMSNET4.DSK and NETASPI4.NLM and are stored 
   in NETWARE.ZIP, which can be downloaded from 
   ftp://ftp.symbios.com/pub/symchips/SCSI/drivers/Net_Drviers/, or
   from the Symbios BBS in the USA: (719) 573-3562.
   Ensure that the minimum patch level is being used on the Netware 
   Server. The minimum patch list and all the patches can be 
   downloaded from http://support.novell.com
   
   Modify the STARTUP.NCF file on the file server to use the new NCR 
   SCSI driver with command queuing disabled as follows:
   
   "LOAD SDMSNET4.DSK QTAGS=DISABLE"
   
   Also add the following line to the STARTUP.NCF file: 
   
      "Set Reserved Buffers Below 16 Meg = 300"
   
   This ensures enough memory below 16MB is allocated for the 
   ArcServe ASPI and Tape drivers.
   
   Modify the AUTOEXEC.NCF file on the file server to include the 
   NCR ASPI driver. Ensure the driver has been copied to SYS:SYSTEM. 
   Add the driver as follows:
   
      "LOAD NETASPI4.NLM"
   
   The ArcServe installation is done from a workstation which has to 
   be logged in to the file server onto which ArcServe is being 
   installed. Furthermore, the login has to have supervisory 
   privileges on this file server.
   ArcServe 5.01g is not NDS-aware, therefore the user HAS to be 
   logged in in bindery emulation mode, e.g. "login admin /b".
   
   During the ArcServe installation, choose the 
   "IBM On Board SCSI II controller" option, This will install the 
   generic ArcServe ASPI driver ASPI50.NLM which is compatible with 
   the NCR ASPI driver NETASPI4.NLM.
