TITLE:  MS Works v4.0 Error on Adv! Systems
 
 
ISSUE 
 
   Microsoft Works v4.0 may report the following error when starting 
   Communications under the Works Tools tab:
   
      "This program has performed an illegal 
       operation and will be shut down."
    
   This issue affects the following systems: 503080, 503081, 503082, 
   503083, 503091, 503092, 503094, 503116, 503117, 503139, 503153, 
   503172, and 503304.    

 
BACKGROUND

ACTION 
 
   To resolve the issue, perform the following steps:
   
   AST HIGHLY RECOMMENDS A BACKUP OF ALL DATA NOT ORIGINALLY ON THE 
   COMPUTER BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SOFTWARE UPDATE.
   
   1. Create a temporary directory on the system's hard 
      drive. 
   
   2. Update the Windows 95 registry by downloading file 
      BLUCNTFX.REG from one of AST's On-Line! services to 
      the created temporary directory. 
   
   3. Open Windows Explorer to the temporary directory and 
      double-click on the file. 
   
   The system will issue a prompt to the screen notifying the user 
   that the registry has been updated.
