AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1672 03/04/97
TITLE: Installing SCO on an Ascentia A
ISSUE
Some users may encounter difficulties installing SCO Open Server
5 on an Ascentia A system, when selecting the Media device. SCO
will expect to see the IDE CD-ROM drive as a slave on the primary
controller and will not find the CD-ROM.
This issue affects all Ascentia A systems.
BACKGROUND
SCO Open Server 5 uses an ATAPI driver to provide support for IDE
CD-ROM devices. This support is given by replacing the Western
Digital driver shipped with SCO.
The user can avoid installation problems by defining the
parameters for this driver.
ACTION
Use the following command at the boot prompt:
defbootstr ahslink=ATAPI Sdsk=wd(1,0,0,0) disable=dptr
This command will allow SCO to pick up the CD-ROM and use it as
the install media for SCO.
