TITLE: Ascentia J, Windows, HP-Colorado T1000E
ISSUE
The Colorado 1000TE tape drive unit may not be recognized by
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 or Windows 95 if connected to an
Ascentia J parallel port.
This issue affects all Ascentia J systems.

ACTION
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
1. Download the self-extracting file OB800.EXE from
HP-Colorado's ftp site at the following address:
ftp.hp.com/pub/information_storage/hp-colorado/cbw
2. Extract the file to an empty subdirectory.
3. Follow the steps listed below which pertain to your
particular operating system.
(NOTE: AST obtained the instructions listed below from Colorado,
and edited them for this bulletin.)
CLOSE ANY OPEN APPLICATIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE DRIVER
UPGRADE.
For Windows 95 users, perform the following:
You must have Colorado Backup for Windows 95, version 1.70
already installed! If you do not, please call Colorado customer
support. To find out the version, open Colorado Backup for
Windows 95, click on Help, and About.
The following two files are included in the extracted OB800.EXE
file:
PARASCAN.VXD
HPQIC117.VXD
Follow these directions for installing the new driver files:
1. Click Start, Find, Files or Folders.
2. In the Named field, type PARASCAN.VXD and press the
Find the Now button. Typically this file is located in
the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
3. Write down the full path to the location of the file.
4. Copy PARASCAN.VXD and HPQIC117.VXD into the location
you recorded in the previous step. For example, click
Start, Programs, Windows Explorer; then copy the files
into the new location.
5. Restart your computer. Your new driver files will be
activated.
For Windows 3.x users, follow the instructions below:
You must have Colorado Backup for Windows, version 2.90, 2.91, or
2.92 already installed! If you do not, please call Colorado's
customer support. To find out the version, open Colorado Backup
for Windows, click on Help, and then About.
The following file is included in the extracted OB800.EXE file:
CMSWTAPE.386
Follow these directions for installing the new driver files:
1. Start the File Manager program and click File, and
Search.
2. In the Search for field, type CMSWTAPE.386 and press
the key. Typically this file is located in the
\CBW directory.
3. Write down the full path to the location of the file.
4. Copy the new CMSWTAPE.386 into the location you
recorded in the previous step.
5. Restart your computer. Your new driver file will be
activated.
